IBO was founded by SPIOR to establish the Islamic Cemetery Rotterdam and manage it in the long term.
Our mission
Establish, manage and preserve.
A cemetery serves generations. IBO therefore focuses both on construction and on the religious, organisational and financial conditions for the future.
Religious care and diligence
Islamic burial requirements, the principle of perpetual grave rest and respect for bereaved families are central.
Responsible management
We are developing an organisation and operating model that support long-term maintenance and preservation.
Our foundations
Rooted in Rotterdam and Rijnmond.
The initiative builds on SPIOR’s efforts and the involvement of mosques, volunteers and families across the region.
The Islamic Cemetery Rotterdam is intended for the wider Muslim community, regardless of origin or background. The community has already contributed through donations and fundraisers.
IBO works as a separate organisation on development and future management. Cooperation with the municipality and professional advisers supports careful development.
Space for knowledge and guidance
Alongside the cemetery, IBO aims to develop facilities for farewell, prayer and ritual washing. Information for families, schools and professionals is also part of its ambitions.
